Work in progress: Centre Square – Glazed bricks add a vibrant detail

October 2019

Glazed bricks are enjoying a renaissance in popularity. We have seen an increase in demand for both off the shelf and bespoke glazed bricks. Until not so long ago, glazed bricks were viewed as quite old fashioned, but current trends for eye catching, mixed finish exteriors has led to a resurgence in interest. For designers wanting to add a vibrant, colourful detail to a building, glazed bricks are ideal.

We are currently supplying glazed slips and whole bricks to a project in High Wycombe. Centre Square at Lily’s Walk is a major new housing development by Inland Homes, transforming 1.43 hectares of brownfield land opposite High Wycombe’s popular Eden shopping centre. The project is due for completion in April 2020 and will include 239homes and 15,800sq ft of commercial space for shops, leisure amenities and business premises on the ground floor.

We are supplying around 330m sq of bespoke green glazed whole bricks for the commercial part of the buildings on the ground floor and brick slips, corners and headers to provide a colourful detail to the upper floors. As you can see from the pictures so far, the end finish will make quite a statement, at the same time as tying in with the green park areas included as part of the plans.

Glazed bricks are offered in a range of standard colours but are also available with bespoke colours and textures, which are designed to stand the test of time. Among the benefits; the double firing process when making glazed bricks ensures the integral glaze finish is resistant to fading and most chemicals. In addition to this stains, smog and graffiti can be cleaned with soap and water, bricks are impact, abrasion and weather resistant and will never peel, discolour or need painting.
