SIKA Liquid Plastics offer the following product ranges:
Warm Roofs – Built up Roofs:
Sika Liquid Plastics launched its built up roof system in 2004, which signalled a revolution in roofing systems due to its completely flame free and heat free installation. Since then the market has evolved with more clients requiring cold applied options with improved workability.
Cold Roofs:
Sika Liquid Plastics manufacture elastomeric seamless polyurethane coating systems that are suitable for the waterproofing of new and the refurbishment and upgrading of existing cold flat roofs.
Waterproofing Membranes:
Sika Liquid Plastics offer a variety of liquid roofing system and are celebrating the 30 year anniversary of their pioneering flagship product, Decothane. They have further developed this patented technology to launch Decothane Ultra – a low odour, cold-applied solution, ideal for sensitive sites.
Sika Liquid Plastics has further product ranges to suit project requirements – Sikalastic PU and Sikalastic STP
Inverted Roofs:
Sika Liquid Plastics’ Inverted Roof System offers many advantages over traditional warm and cold low pitched flat roofs. Not only is the system completely cold applied, it is also totally seamless.
Green Roofs:
A green roof is the term applied when vegetation such as sedum, plants and trees, are installed on a building. There are three types of green roofs; Extensive Green Roofs, Biodiverse Roofs (Extensive Brown Roofs), and Intensive Green Roofs.
Solar Roofs:
A roof was once seen only as a means of protecting a building from the elements. But now, through the installation of solar panels, it has become a valuable resource for building owners.
Asbestos Encapsulation:
Sika Liquid Plastics has developed a range of special asbestos encapsulation systems known as Asbestolok® designed specifically for asbestos roofs. Once installed, the system enables the asbestos to be left undisturbed and will provide protection from all of the associated dangers.
Waterproofing of Balconies and Walkways:
Sika Liquid Plastics has a wide range of solutions for Balconies and Walkways with guarantees of up to 20 years. They have developed a fast-curing PMMA system Sikalastic Rapid with potential curing time of 15-20 minutes – ideal for situations with restricted access or where fast application is required.

Sika Decothane Celebrating 35 Years of Liquid Roofing Membrane
Celebrating Decothane: 35 years of Performance and Development for the UK’s leading Liquid Roofing Membrane.
Alex Coward, R&D Manager at Sika, discusses the continuous development that has kept Decothane at the forefront of liquid applied membrane specification for 35 years.
Decothane 35 Years
When it was first launched 35 years ago, Decothane was a significant innovation for the UK roofing sector, setting the benchmark for high-performance liquid-applied membranes for flat roofing applications. Since then, specification of cold-applied liquid roofing systems has grown year-on-year, and specifiers have a broad array of brands and products to choose from. Decothane has remained at the forefront of the sector, however, by continuing to drive innovation in performance, service life, safety and environmental compliance.
Alex Coward: Decothane
From the outset, the versatility and performance of the Decothane system made it a popular choice for specifiers and contractors alike. The proven technology behind the Decothane range of systems has remained the same at the core of the product for the past 35 years, enabling ambitious designs and providing a robust solution, backed by a range of Sika guarantees. Thanks to Sika’s in-house research and development capabilities in the UK and across the world, however, the Decothane range has stayed a step ahead of roofing technologies, regulatory changes and environmental considerations with an array of updates and enhancements.
The performance of the Decothane system has been a key driver for continuous R&D input over the past 35 years, which has included refinements to the core system and the addition of new products to the range, including low-odour Decothane Ultra, which is suitable for both exposed and hidden flat roof applications. Decothane Ultra was developed as a result of Sika’s R&D work on i-cure technology, which enabled the formulation of a low-odour system; an important addition to the range that allows roofing projects to take place in occupied buildings, including schools and hospitals.
Along with pioneering performance enhancements, the R&D team at Sika has also been focused on improving the safety and environmental profile of the range for the past 35 years, without losing any of Decothane’s performance characteristics. The R&D ethos has been centred around a commitment to staying a step ahead of legislation on banned substances and environmental compliance, to ensure that specifiers can always be confident of both excellent performance and responsible, sustainable specification from Decothane.
The result is a cleaner and safer solution as compared to other cold-applied liquid membranes, with all safety and chemical data clearly labelled on the data sheet. A huge vast amount of R&D know-how has also been focused on reducing the solvents and VOCs in Decothane membranes, drawing on R&D resources and ingredients from across Sika’s global network. This means that Decothane is easier to store for contractors and poses no contamination threat for watercourses, while providing a clean labelled product that answers end users’ environmental and sustainability priorities.
Decothane has already created a rich legacy on projects across the UK and beyond. At 35 years old, the Decothane range is still growing and developing, providing compliance, safety and performance for a huge variety of roofs.
THE FLOWER BOWL WINS AGAIN FOR SIKA LIQUID PLASTICS
Sika Liquid Plastics is celebrating the continuing success of one of its stand-out projects of 2018 after The Flower Bowl won the Green Roof category in the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) Awards.
Sika Liquid Plastics Quality Assured Contractor, W Hughes & Son installed Sika Liquid Plastics’ Decothane Root-Resistant system and Decotherm insulation at The Flower Bowl, a new-build leisure attraction on the outskirts of Preston with a curved green roof designed to echo the local landscape.
The NFRC Award follows the project’s success in being named Liquid Roofing Project of the Year in a Buried Application in the Liquid Roofing & Waterproofing Association (LRWA) Awards late last year. It highlights the collaborative relationship between the client, Sika Liquid Plastics and W Hughes & Son, which has led to a unique roofing installation that creates impact for the development and has created a real talking point for visitors.
Guy Topping from The Flower Bowl comments: “The building has been designed to echo the rolling hills of the Lancashire landscape and, thanks to the roofing system supplied by Sika Liquid Plastics, expertly installed by the W Hughes & Son team, we have successfully achieved that vision. Once the grass on the roof has matured, we even hope to be able to graze sheep up there, which I’m sure will be a first for a leisure attraction!”
Sika Liquid Plastics’ Decotherm insulation was mechanically fixed to the profiled metal roof deck, following the contours for the hill-shaped roof. Sika Liquid Plastics’ Decothane Root-Resistant system was then used to provide a robust waterproof surface, which is compatible with a green roof build-up and provided the ideal solution for The Flower Bowl.
Sam Kidd Area Technical Manager from Sika Liquid Plastics adds: “This is a stunning new build development and the curved green roof ensures that it looks distinctive and offers visitors a unique experience.“We’re delighted that the project has been successful in another major industry awards programme and it’s testament to the whole team, including the client, the contractor and Sika Liquid Plastics.”
