FILON PRODUCTS LTD
Suppliers of: GRP Corrugated roofing GRP rooflights GRP profiled cladding Hygienic Cladding
Filon Products Limited have, for over 60 years, manufactured translucent Glass Reinforced Polyester (GRP) rooflights and GRP profiled cladding sheets.
GRP Cladding, Rooflight & Roof Sheet Profiles
Filon now offer more than 1000 different profiles as part of its standard range of GRP rooflights. We are also able to match most metal, fibre cement and cladding profiles enabling Filon to supply not only new GRP rooflights but also to replace broken and degraded rooflights and coloured GRP roof sheets.
The range includes translucent, colour tinted and opaque coloured profiled sheets for single skin roofing systems and double skin site assembled rooflights for use within a twin skin built up roof system.
Filon also manufacture and supply FAIRs, Factory Assembled Insulating Rooflights, for use within composite panel roof systems. The range of rooflights and roof sheets is available in a variety of weights to achieve a Class B non-fragile status and in a range of fire grades: SAB3; SAA1 and SAA0 under BS476 Parts 3, 6 and 7.
Over Roofing Old Profiled & Asbestos Roofs
Filon have also developed a unique method of repairing asbestos cement or fibre cement roofs. Over time profiled cement roofing can degrade, crack and collect moss. Asbestos roofing is expensive to remove and dispose of safely.
Filon’s over roofing system removes the need for dangerous and costly removal whilst improving the thermal efficiency of the roof. As Filon can match nearly any roof corrugated roof profile, Filon’s over-roofing system can be laid over most roofs keeping the original roof sheets in place and allows the incorporation of insulation. This can raise the roof by only either 25mm or 60mm and requires no planning permission as the sheets match the existing profiles.
Replacing Rooflights the Safe Way
Filon’s Fixsafe system has been developed for the replacement of sheeting or rooflights from the underside thereby removing the high risks associated with accessing fragile roofs. This system allows the client, agent and contractors to be able to fully comply with the HSE Working At Height Regulations 2005 when working on fragile roofs as all the work involved in replacing the rooflight or roof sheet completely from within the building. This system can also reduce disruption to the building occupiers and reduce costs as expensive crawler boards, edge protection scaffold and safety netting is not required.
Dome Skylights, Barrel Vault Rooflights & Panel Glazing
Filon’s range of Monarch F GRP barrel vault rooflights are typically used as continuous rooflights in standing seam, low pitch and flat roof applications and are available to suit varying U value requirements and in a range of widths starting at 500mm wide.
Chemical Resistant & Aggressive Atmospheres
Nearly all of Filon’s products are ideal for aggressive, chemical and coastal atmospheres where other materials such as coated steel and aluminium would quickly corrode. Citadel sheets can be tailor made to suit exact site specific conditions. Provide information relating to conditions and contaminates and Filon’s Technical Department will design the resin and surface protection system accordingly to provide life spans of up to 40 years.
Hygienic Cladding
Filon also manufacture flat GRP cladding with a textured surface which is perfectly suitable for hygienic cladding applications such as abattoirs and food preparation areas etc.
Sign Panels
Filon manufacture mpGRP, a flat GRP sheet designed for road signage as an alternative to steel and aluminium. The advantage over the traditional metal products is that there is no scrap value in the GRP sheet so theft is unlikely and GRP is also very resilient to harsh atmospheric / environmental conditions where metal corrosion is likely.
GRP Roof Valley Troughs
GRP roof valleys gutters and Dry Fix valley troughs are manufactured by Filon Products and the range is complemented with a suite of end closures to remove the need for the costly and skilled operation of constructing lead saddles. These simple to fit end closures can be installed by any roofer with a hammer and nails in almost no time at all.

We are now able to advise that we will be gladly reopening our factory for production on 20th April 2020. It will initially be on a small scale but as the business level hopefully picks up, we will have more employees returning to keep up with the increasing demand.
The wellbeing of our dedicated staff is paramount and rest assured that measures are in place to safeguard our employees and ensure social distancing and hygiene guidelines are adhered to. If you are arranging delivery to or collections from us, please be aware that there may be some changes to the procedures.
For customers with orders already on our system, our Sales Office will be in touch shortly to check whether your orders are still needed and by when. I would ask that you respond as quickly as possible so that we are then able to produce an up to date production schedule and advise of the new delivery dates. We will try our best to accommodate your requirements.
However, I would respectfully request that you help us by providing as accurate information as possible regarding your delivery requirement dates to ensure we are able to correctly prioritize the orders on our system. In fairness to all of our customers, we do not want to manufacture orders that aren’t urgently required before ones that are.
Please accept our thanks for your patience, understanding and support. Together we will get through these difficult times and again we send to you our best wishes for your health and safety.
Yours sincerely,

ROOFING & CLADDING: LONDON GLIDING CLUB BUILDING, TOTTERNHOE, BEFORDSHIRE
Filon was called upon to provide a refurbishment solution for the Grade 2 listed London Gliding Club Building in Totternhoe, Bedfordshire, at the foot of the Dunstable Downs.
The Club is one of the largest and oldest of its kind in the UK, having been in existence since 1930. In 1935 the original wooden hangars at the site were replaced on the present building designed by the renowned architect and club member Kit Nicholson.
In recent years, the building had deteriorated and in early 2014, the decision was taken to carry out refurbishment to the roofing and cladding.
This presented an unusual challenge. The local planning department insisted on replacement using a profile to match the existing asbestos cement cladding, to comply with the requirements of the building’s listing. However, during a previous refurbishment the cladding had been replaced incorrectly, with the same profile used for walls and roofing.
After being approached by the client’s architect, the Technical Department at Filon responded by modifying an existing GRP roofing profile to provide a practical solution which performed the dual roles of wall and roof sheeting, whilst conforming to the aesthetic requirements of the planners.
Industrial and commercial roofing specialist, Advanced Roofing Services of Forest Row, East Sussex were appointed as roofing contractor and carried out the very successful removal of existing roof and wall sheets and the installation of the new Filon sheeting.
Filon’s triple reinforced GRP sheeting, Supasafe was used on the roof and was complemented by matching translucent rooflight sheets. For the walls, Filon’s double reinforced DR-30 was used. These two outstandingly strong yet still relatively thin and lightweight products were chosen to provide a very strong and durable roof to provide long term non-fragility and enable the roof and walls to cope with the possible high wind loads on the exposed site.
Filon DR and Supasafe roofsheets and rooflights are are available in three fire resistant grades to meet current Building Regulations for Fire Safety.
