Build for the world we live in
We have grown our reputation through making sure we focus on the environments in which our products are employed – working together to develop the solutions our customers seek; challenging preconceptions of what is possible and always open to new ideas. We recognise the importance of the buildings in which we all live, work and relax. We spend 90% of our lives inside buildings, so it is of the utmost importance that the homes we live in, the hospitals where we care for our sick, the schools in which we educate our children and the offices in which business operates are world class. Safe, comfortable, sustainable and enjoyable. We are constantly evolving to meet new challenges and capitalise on new opportunities while never losing sight of our ultimate goal: to Build for the world we live in. Knauf Dry Screed Flooring – For every walk of life
Knauf Dry Screed Flooring Systems are ideal for a wide range of projects and have multiple benefits compared to traditional wet screed. They are lighter, fast to traffic and suitable for modern construction methods (MMC).
The dry screed boards are up to 75% lighter than traditional wet screed, which is in part due to them being significantly thinner. This makes Knauf’s dry screed flooring systems ideal for retrofit and refurbishment projects, as the thinner boards maximise floor to ceiling height.
As the name suggests, dry screed flooring requires no protracted drying time. This means the systems are ready for foot traffic within 24 hours, much faster than the 2–7 day wait for wet screed systems to dry. This also allows for follow on trades to begin work much sooner, therefore having the potential to reduce overall build time.
If underfloor heating is being installed on the project, the Knauf boards are particularly beneficial. The low thermal resistance and high thermal conductivity of our boards assist in improving response times whether you are heating or cooling the floor, thus reducing energy consumption.
The sustainability credentials don’t end there either. No water is required during installation and, due to their being lightweight, less substantial concrete or steel substructures and reduced foundations are needed to install the boards. This all translates to the conservation of valuable resources.
The Knauf range includes Knauf Brio, Brio WF, GIFAfloor HUGO and GIFAfloor FHB.
Knauf Brio is a medium density floor panel that is installed onto a solid floor, although this can be either an existing solid subfloor or in a floating construction. Knauf Brio is 43% more thermally efficient than chipboard when used in conjunction with underfloor heating systems.
Knauf Brio WF is a dry screed floor panel backed with wood-fibre to provide excellent acoustic performance and sound reduction which help to effectively reduce noise transmission.
Knauf GIFAfloor HUGO is a medium density gypsum fibre panel engineered with tongue and groove edges for ease of installation.
Knauf GIFAfloor FHB is a high density dry screed panel able to span between joists and pedestals due to its structural spanning capabilities. Being a hollow flooring system and having high thermal conductivity makes GIFAfloor panels ideal for underfloor heating systems.
The products come in the form of interlocking panels for improved robustness and making them easier to lay. They can also be covered with a range of finishes, including ceramic or natural stone tiles.
All Knauf flooring systems are precision engineered from the highest-quality gypsum fibreboard to create strong monolithic floor structures. To find out more, please visit https://www.knauf.co.uk/systems-and-products/dry-screed-flooring
Knauf Sponsors Architectural Award
Knauf is delighted to announce its sponsorship of the Civic Buildings category of the 2021 Dezeen Awards.
Knauf has a long-established partnership with architecture publisher Dezeen. This has seen a series of collaborative events based out of the Knauf showroom in Clerkenwell and streamed live to audiences across the world.
Sponsorship of the awards adds a new element to this partnership and Jimmy Collins, National Specification Director atf Knauf, explains the rationale: “Dezeen is such an influential international brand, with an audience numbered in millions across its website and social media platforms. It’s a great match for Knauf which is helping architects across the world realise their design intent.”
Now in its fourth year, the Dezeen Awards programme had attracted over four and a half thousand entries before the deadline in July. The 93-strong panel of judges represent the international flavour of the event, being drawn from architecture and design practices from China to the Netherlands.
Once the judges have selected a “long list” – the results of this process will be published on the Dezeen website throughout August – there is then a second process, allowing for a public vote to select its own winners. The final results will be announced in a series of online shows in November.
The sponsorship allies the Knauf brand with the cutting-edge contemporary design that epitomises its “Build for the World We Live In” philosophy. The Civic Buildings category was an obvious choice for the sponsorship, given the number of large-scale public buildings that have relied on the products and technical support provided by the Company.
Last year’s winner of the category, the Noor E Mobin Primary School in Iran, is described as an “educational neighbourhood” with architects FEA Studio summarising the design as providing an “alternative perspective toward an educational space in which the opposing voids and valid spaces come together to bring about a sense of place, independence and uniqueness”.
Aisling Cowley, Head of the Dezeen Awards, is enthusiastic about the sponsorship arrangement: “Our aim is to partner with international brands which make a positive contribution to contemporary architecture and design, and we are delighted to welcome Knauf to our dynamic awards programme.”
