Control Systems
Our brand new OMNIE TOUCH smart thermostat delivers precise zone control of underfloor heating circuits. The large full colour LCD capacitive touchscreen display and ultra-thin profile not only mean that the device looks great in any home, but also ensures the programme menu is simple to understand and easy to use. A remote sensor is also available to create a partner zone (such as en-suite) or measure the temperature from a different location to the touchscreen. Our new controls are very easy to setup and have identical electrical connections to industry standard thermostats making them a clear choice for underfloor heating applications. The OMNIE TOUCH is available from mid 2018.
Ventilation & Heat Recovery (MVHR)
The ComfoAir-Q from OMNIE pumps clean and fresh air into your building whilst removing stale used air in the process. Maintaining good air quality is achievable with a OMNIE comfort air system which utilises Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery (MVHR). The OMNIE MVHR system has the ability to filter pollen and dust as standard, in addition to this, we have the options to provide some protection against harmful air pollutants.
With an average family producing 18 litres of water every day, regulating this humidity is possible through the OMNIE MVHR system. High levels of humidity can lead to health issues if mould occurs on cold surfaces and there is poor ventilation. One of the main benefits of the OMNIE solution is that it will extract more moisture over a longer period then compared with a conventional intermittent ventilation system.

OMNIE PACKAGE HEATS LOW ENERGY HILLSIDE HOUSE IN NORTH YORKSHIRE
OMNIE PACKAGE HEATS LOW ENERGY HILLSIDE HOUSE IN NORTH YORKSHIRE
A contractor developer, targeting the high end property market in the area around the Yorkshire towns of Ripon and Harrogate, is utilising a renewables and underfloor heating package from sector specialist OMNIE to provide all of the space heating and hot water, as well as to maintain indoor air quality. Hotham Construction Services Limited was set up just over a year ago by Martin Hotham, though his association with Exeter based OMNIE goes back far further, through his experience as a plumbing and heating contractor. For the new-build five-bedroom house hear Ripon, Hotham Construction is making use of insulated concrete formwork (ICF) for the walls of the half buried structure, as well as a highly insulated pitched roof supported by JJI engineered timber joists, to keep heating loads to a minimum. OMNIE therefore determined that a 7kW LG Therma V air source heat pump would be sufficient to feed the Ultimate and OgeeBoard UFH circuits, along with all of the domestic hot water requirements. OMNIE also designed and supplied a full MVHR system for the house, utilising a Zehnder unit offering industry leading efficiency standards.
Martin Hotham commented: “I have been installing OMNIE air source heat pumps and underfloor heating, as well as the Zehnder MVHR systems, in properties for over five years and had no hesitation in going to them for this house we are building on behalf of a private client. OMNIE’s technical team has not only provided all of the specifications and detailed layout drawings for the build, but trained our people in the installation of the LG heat pumps, as well as a visit last year to the ALPHA INNOTEC KASSENDORF factory in Germany.”

“Then towards the end of the job, when we have completed installing the heat pump, OMNIE’s engineer will come to carry out the commissioning work. In terms of the underfloor heating here, our upper floor (at ground level) construction makes use of metal web joists which we cover with 18mm chipboard to create a safe platform, before we lay a waterproof membrane and the OMNIE Ultimate boards followed by the pipes and the levelling compound. It offers a very good base for a tiled floor.”
Developed in conjunction with Tilemaster Adhesives, the 18mm thick, precision routed XPS insulation panels feature a special ‘diffuser channel’ concentric to the pipe runs. These significantly increase contact and heat transfer from the pipes when the Levelflex self- levelling compound is laid across the installed 12mm PE pipework. Ultimate’s design further enhances bond efficiency and resists subsequent tile movement; while the boards’ ease of installation and overall low construction depth mean the product fits within all three of OMNIE’s LAYFAST, ULTRALOW and TILEOVER technology categories. Then for the lower ground or basement, OMNIE’s OgeeBoard XPS panels were laid throughout the bedrooms, bathrooms and a generous sized gymnasium which adjoins the home’s plant room. They are available in thicknesses of 35, 50 and 75 mm to take 16.5mm thick PE-RT pipe laid directly into the routed channels which protect the circuits from damage until a screed is laid. This gives good heat transmission though output depends on the final floor covering chosen as well as water flow temperature.
OMNIE RENEWABLES WARMING TRIO OF FIVE BED HOMES IN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
A development of three detached, five-bedroom homes in the market town of Raunds near Northampton is utilising renewable heat packages featuring air source heat pumps, delivered by whole house systems specialist, OMNIE, part of the Ridgespear Group. The solution, for Tophaven makes use of quiet running heat pumps positioned at the rear of each home, with OMNIE’s Staple underfloor heating system installed over Cellecta Tectris insulation on the ground floor slabs with the manufacturer’s versatile LowBoard panels and pipework serving the bedroom levels. All of the installation has been carried out by the developers in-house team, with OMNIE completing the commissioning work. The founder of Tophaven, Ian Johnson, commented: “We hadn’t made use of whole house underfloor heating systems before, because we were mainly building smaller houses, but with larger properties like these and the general move towards more sustainable and low carbon heating systems, we got back in touch with OMNIE to consider their heat pumps solutions. I feel that taking a complete package is definitely the best, where you get everything sized correctly for the building’s requirements based on the heat pump’s output. OMNIE’s technical side has always been very good and not only are we pleased with the outcome here, we’re just starting another project with a similar set up.”
Tony Sexton of Tophaven commented: “This is my first experience of installing the OMNIE underfloor heating systems, but I think the systems are exceedingly good with well-designed diagrams for each floor and the LG heat pumps are also more straightforward than the other two types of air source I’ve previously fitted. Although these are quite large, five bed properties, it was taking two days to lay the Staple system across the ground floor and four to five days for the upstairs, installing the LowBoard across the main decking and fitting the pipework into the channels before connecting up to the manifolds and then laying the plywood finish “
“The layout drawings were easy to follow and where I did have any issues the OMNIE engineer, Dave Thomas, provided answers immediately. The residents who have moved into the properties are all very pleased with the output and comfort.”
While the Staple system is covered by a conventional screed, the LowBoard circuits are being overlaid with 6mm plywood, ready to take either laminate flooring or a rubber underlay in the areas being carpeted. The LowBoard panels are a widely specified and very popular product within OMNIE’s Ultralow offering with an overall panel depth of 21mm, accommodating 12mm diameter pipe runs. This offers low water volume, while the relatively small diameter pipe is also easy to push into the precisely routed board profiles. OMNIE underfloor heating systems are ideal for delivering efficient and comfortable warmth within well insulated, new or refurbished buildings, while helping ensure its various ground or air source heat pump options, or other renewables, run at optimum efficiency.
OMNIE can provide consultants and contractors with a full specification, design and supply service for projects in the domestic, commercial and other sectors.
