10 x height of The Shard in EuroPipe

Gateway New Street Birmingham

Following a five year 750m investment programme the new Birmingham Gateway New Street railway station will open its doors on 20th September 2015. Gateway New Street is now a world class transport center, boasting a concourse the size of 13 Wimbledon centre courts and atrium roof the height of 8 double decker buses from which 6000 tones of concrete had to be removed to create! The heart of Gateway New Street is stainless steel. Stainless steel was chosen for the facade as well as throughout the building where BLÜCHER supplied our environmentally friendly BLÜCHER® EuroPipe drainage pipework system. The project required many lengths of BLÜCHERs hygienic EuroPipe - in fact around 10.000 feet! BLÜCHER supplied over 3090 meters of stainless steel pipe on the Gateway New Street project which is as much as the tallest building in London The Shard x 10!

BLÜCHER was an obvious choice for Birmingham's Gateway New Street project as stainless steel is non-toxic, corrosion resistant, hygienic and the most fire resistant material on the market and can be recycled indefinitely without any loss of its properties. BLÜCHER® EuroPipe is only a third of the weight of a traditional cast iron drainage system and can typically offer 40% labour savings and superior whole life costs compared to alternative drainage materials.

Sustainability is at the heart of BLÜCHER who fully recognises its responsibility towards the environment. It is no surprise that stainless steel is such a popular material for the 21st centaury, when it has so many environmental benefits in its production, use and recyclability.
