Rainwater harvesting for DEFRA’s award-winning Lion House office

Challenge
To minimise mains water consumption at DEFRA’s ultra-low emissions new Lion House office building, in Alnwick, which aimed to achieve the highest possible BREEAM rating.
Solution
We supplied a Kingspan Water Envireau rainwater harvesting system with a 12,000 litre storage tank to supply sufficient daily water year-round for all the WCs at Lion House, used by the building’s 100 employees. The system is estimated to save Lion House £800 a year in water rates, while the building won the 2008 BREEAM Office Category for Excellent Environmental Performance.
