South African Eco Hotel Puts Hergom’s Mallorca and Glance Stoves Centre Stage

Nestled in one of Africa’s most stunning coastal reserves, the De Hoop Nature Reserve in the Western Cape province of South Africa, the Morukuru Beach Lodge is a spectacular eco hotel that runs completely off-grid using solar power and electricity generators. The Lodge opened its doors to guests in July 2018, welcoming visitors to its remote location, three and a half hours’ drive from Cape Town and surrounded by the indigenous Fynbos vegetation. From the months of July through October, the De Hoop Nature Reserve is one of the best places in Africa, maybe even the world, for land-based whale watching. This has resulted in the area being Marine Protected, where no boats are allowed and the whales are left undisturbed. The Lodge is the ultimate luxurious getaway location. Along with its breathtaking views, the hotel itself is fully sustainable and hot water for all the bathrooms, as well as for the water-based underfloor heating, is provided by an eco-friendly pellet burner. Each guest room within the Lodge also comes with a Hergom Glance wood burning stove while communal areas feature a statement Hergom chimenea-style fireplace, the Mallorca. With year-round ambience and a cosy temperature during the winter months, Hergom stoves are sleek and modern in design, perfectly complementing the contemporary décor that adorns Morukuru Beach Lodge throughout.

The 19kW Mallorca wood burning steel and glass stove is a radiant chimenea-style freestanding fireplace characterised by its all-round 360˚ view of the flickering flames inside. Its large, statement size and styling make it the perfect choice for communal living areas, open-plan spaces and meeting rooms. Plus, when the cooker is not in operation, it provides a warm, ambient glow to its surroundings thanks to its special firebox light that can be used when the fire isn’t burning. It comes with a removable ash pan for easy, mess-free cleaning, ceramic glass viewing window to withstand the heat and sudden temperature changes as well as efficient airwash technology.

Hergom’s 7.5kW Glance freestanding cast iron wood burning stove is ideal for smaller spaces. Its compact design combines high heat output with excellent heat retention. It has a ceramic glass viewing window on the front and sides and it’s Ecodesign Ready. With energy efficient combustion technology, the stove is available with a top or rear exit and, as with all Hergom stoves, Glance emits minimal emissions, making it a truly sustainable option.

Morukuru Family De Hoop, which includes this beautiful Beach Lodge and its sister property Morukuru Ocean House, was voted Best Resort in South Africa and Second-Best Resort Worldwide by Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards in 2021 for the second year running. The Hergom Mallorca stove is priced from £18,267 and the Glance stove is from £3,701.
