ION Glass - Will glass doors work in an older property?

June 2021

The problem
When you're renovating and refurbishing an older property, is it practical to include glass doors or should you stick with traditional wooden doors throughout?

The solution
Whether it's introducing bespoke internal doors or replacing an old-fashioned wooden front door there are a range of benefits to be gained from choosing glass as a key element of your design.
Replacing wooden front doors with glass immediately raises the light levels within the building
Internal glass doors opening into individual rooms will improve the flow of light around the property.
There's no need to compromise on security, your glass door can be securely locked and fitted with alarms as required.
Consider glass fire-rated doors to raise the level of protection within the building without compromising on light and vision.
Our fully frameless glass shower doors are the ideal choice in the bathroom
Don't be limited by space or size, Ion Glass can supply sliding or folding glass doors, or doors bespoke manufactured to unusual shapes or sizes.

Case Studies

Internal Glass Doors, Barn Conversion

A number of internal glass doors were fitted to this contemporary barn conversion. Each one was wholly bespoke to fit perfectly around the beams and within the space. An opaque sliding door to the master bathroom provides the optimum solution to meet the space constraints, without compromising on light flow to a passageway that has no direct source of natural light.

Glass Fire Doors, Hastings Library

The refurbishment of Hastings Library was a multi-million pound project to bring this Grade II listed building in line with modern requirements and regulations. Fire-rated glass screens and automatic fire-rated glass doors around the lift-shafts ensure the building has maximum protection in the event of an incident. Each fully bespoke glass door is designed to meet current regulations, with minimal visible fixtures and fittings to detract from the style of this heritage building.

Glass Entrance and Porch, Sussex Home

Creating a secure inner porch and door from frameless glass greatly improved the flow of light to an otherwise dark and uninviting hallway in this 1930’s style home.

The original timber door, now re-installed between two leaded double-glazed side panels, can be left open as required, letting light into the building without compromising on security.
