Challenge
Hav Line Processing, the world’s largest salmon packing facility, opened at Hirtshals Harbour, Denmark in 2019. In addition to its storage and packing facilities, the plant has approximately 875m² of office, meeting and administration space. The rooms are used daily by multiple staff, placing high demands on the design and durability of the flooring.
Approach
Architect firm KAAS Byggeindustri were tasked with the design of the new plant. With the high volume of foot traffic top of mind, they chose to install Altro Ensemble.
“We have had a good experience with Altro Ensemble and know it’s easy to work with during the installation,” says CEO and project manager Heine Gjerløv.
Solution
All office areas have been installed with Altro Ensemble in a beautiful wooden shade; Natural Rustic Oak. The result is that the plant not only has floors that meet the technical requirements of the build as well but also a design that creates the right atmosphere.
“The floor is made of vinyl, but resembles wooden planks, giving us a floor that works functionally and aesthetically. This type of solution is crucial in making the workplace function well in everyday life.”

Technical Manager Jan Christiansen, from Hav Line Processing, says that the wooden look of the floor is so lifelike that the company’s Quality Control manager initially thought the floors were made of wood:
“She couldn’t understand how we would get wooden floors cleaned properly, so she was relieved when she found out that the tiles are made of vinyl, even though they look like wooden planks.”
In addition to installing Altro Ensemble in the plant’s office, meeting and administration areas, 240 m² of Altro Walkway 20 in the toilet areas.
