Schlüter-Systems’ adjustable pedestal system for loose-lay tiles and pavers

March 2020

Schlüter-Systems’ adjustable pedestal system for loose-lay tiles and pavers was the system of choice for a feature walkway and terrace assembly in a Glasgow garden.

John Lawson, who has worked as a tile contractor for over 40 years, was undertaking a gradual remodel of his 35-metre-long back garden. The bottom of the garden was a wasteland and John sought to transform it into an area where his daughter could entertain her friends in peace and privacy. To do so, he enlisted the help of Schlüter-TROBA-LEVEL, Schlüter-Systems’ stackable pedestal system.

The result of the project was a 1.2-metre-wide walkway stretching from the pre-existing wooden garden decking and eventually stepping down to a 6 x 6m platform. The L-shaped feature made use of 400 x 1200mm porcelain tiles in a 20mm thickness and was edged with wooden decking boards. The decking boards to the perimeter of the feature were attached in such a way as to give the feature the illusion of floating, an effect aided by the black colouring of the TROBA-LEVEL system, which effortlessly blended into the shadows.

“The TROBA-LEVEL system has turned out to be a great option for this project”, says John, “It was easily adjustable and as it is loose-lay, water just flows off the surface. This means there are no problems with standing water and safety”.

Mark Stanley, Business Development Manager at Schlüter distributor TilePal (Diatech) UK, was John’s first point of contact for the project. “Having listened to what John was looking to achieve, my first thought was that the project required a site visit from an expert before we could quote”, says Mark, “Simon Grant from Schlüter was a great help; his visits, measurements and prompt communications made the process of quoting for the job a lot easier”. Continues Mark “Schlüter do the whole package – great products paired with great service, which can be hard to find – so the decision to recommend them for this project was a no-brainer”.

TROBA-LEVEL entered Schlüter’s range of exterior solutions for tile and stone in Autumn 2018. The seven-part system can be combined to form heights between 3mm – 1000mm, making it adaptable to a wide range of project situations, and can also accommodate a slope of up to 10%. In addition, TROBA-LEVEL is UV-resistant, temperature-resistant (-40⁰C – +100⁰C), durable (each pedestal supports >1000kg) and recyclable.

For John’s new statement garden feature, TROBA-LEVEL provided a sturdy, sound and discreet solution, backed by personalised service. For more information, call 01530 813396 or email pr@schluter.co.uk.
