Total solutions approach rapidly gaining popularity, says Myson

An increasing number of requests for assistance with designs for heating systems using more than one type of heat emitter reflects the market’s growing enthusiasm for total heating solutions, reports leading heating manufacturer Myson. Myson is unique in providing a wide range of heating solutions from traditional panel radiators, designer radiators, LSTs and towel warmers to fan convectors and both electric and hydronic underfloor heating systems, as well as heating valves and electronic controls. As a result, the company is best placed to provide unbiased design support and technical assistance for M&E contractors and major installers who favour the holistic approach.

It is becoming quite routine for installers and end users to opt for underfloor heating on the ground floor with radiators on upper floors in large residential properties; but it can be an equally beneficial approach for M&E contractors in commercial properties, which typically have a mixture of spaces such as a main atrium or reception area and large meeting spaces, as well as smaller offices and toilet facilities. Each may need a slightly different approach. In some applications, a single heating product will be ideal, whereas, in an increasing number of instances, the best solution is a combination of heat emitter products working together. Large spaces benefit from underfloor heating for its constant warmth, while in smaller offices, radiators can be easily adjusted to suit occupants’ individual needs.

Fan convectors, which can be wall mounted above doorways are increasingly popular in retail properties, museums and restaurants, while vertical radiators are used for their ability to make the most of narrow wall spaces.

Controlling the total heating solution is the key, whether you are using a single product or a combination. Myson provides a range of valves and controls to ensure this. These range from A-rated thermostatic controls, which research from the University of Salford has demonstrated can increase radiator efficiency by up to 40.52%; to electronic controls such as the Touch 2 WiFi control which can control the heating system remotely from any location with internet access.

“System design and control are vital for energy efficiency,” adds Lowery. “So specifying products for any system should mean carefully considering every option before selecting the right ones to achieve the optimal total solution. Heating is a major investment and you need to get it right, which is why we actively encourage installers and specifiers to involve us at the design and specification stage, so we can give unbiased advice on how to solve any problems, overcome challenges and identify the best products for a total solution that will provide energy efficiency and customer satisfaction well into the future.”

“Because our wide range encompasses all of the most commonly used heating products, we are able to give completely impartial advice as to the best products to select for individual projects,” says
Marketing Manager Andrew Lowery.“We help with design and technical support on an increasing number of projects currently and around 30% of these now involve the use of more than one type of solution. It’s a noticeably growing trend that we believe is set to continue.”

A genuine total solution frequently involves using more than one type of emitter, working in tandem to produce the best solution, so it is essential, says Myson, to ensure that all the products that you specify are designed to work together.
