Wheeled bins made by SULO, part of Plastic Omnium Environment, have received coveted Blue Angel environmental certification.
The world-leading range of two- and four-wheeled waste bins have been recognised for their low-impact environmental credentials, including the use of 80% post-consumer recycled material during their production.
The certification was awarded by the German Environment Agency and is the most sought-after environmental label in the world. The award of the Blue Angel certificate is based on the strictest of criteria and includes annual assessments of the products’ material composition, corporate standards such as staff qualifications, quality management processes and environmental protection.
The certification covers two-wheeled bins with a capacity of 60, 80, 90, 110, 120, 140, 240 and 360 litres, and four-wheeled 1100 litre bins with either flat or domed lids.
Commenting on the award, Richard Gregg, Managing Director of Plastic Omnium Urban Systems Ltd, which distributes SULO products to the British market, said:
“We are delighted that our environmental commitment has been recognised by the award of Blue Angel certification. It is a great honour and a welcome acknowledgement that our SULO bins conform to the highest quality standards whilst using a minimum of 80% recycled materials in their manufacture.
“The Blue Angel label builds on SULO’s RAL certification of quality – an industry-recognised standard which ensures that product quality is consistently maintained - and means that organisations requiring sustainable waste management solutions need no longer choose between quality and being environmentally-friendly: SULO’s bins bring these two vital considerations together.”
As well as being environmentally friendly, tough and durable, SULO’s Blue Angel Certified wheeled bins’ combine 80% recycled material and 20% new material. In addition to the products’ grey body the lid of the two-wheeled and four wheeled bin and “lid in lid” option are available in a choice of 15 different colours.
Richard Gregg continued:
“Whether in commercial or domestic use, the demands made on large capacity waste bins are substantial. They need to be able to withstand rugged treatment over a sustained period of time and until now the industry has been cautious about accepting the use of recycled materials in their manufacture.
“But now, SULO and its parent company Plastic Omnium Environment have devised a range of products that are as robust as their predecessors, whilst minimising their environmental impact through the increased use of recycled materials.
“We have thoroughly tested the range in our research and development facility, and now the award of prestigious Blue Angel certification confirms that the SULO range is both tough and green.
“Each product in the Sulo range is therefore ideal for local authorities and for waste collection businesses who wish to seek sustainable, environmentally-friendly and high quality waste management solutions”.
